Where the Computed Tomography Program Can Take You
This program has been approved by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) for meeting the structured education requirements for the Computed Tomography registry exam; however, candidates must also document completion of specific procedures and repetition of procedures (often fulfilled through the employer’s CT department) to be eligible to apply to sit for this exam.

Program Objective
The certificate in Computed Tomography (CT) program is intended for ARRT registered technologists to prepare for work within an advanced modality. The online courses are designed to build upon existing skills and add the knowledge required to safely and effectively perform diagnostic CT scans. The curriculum prepares the technologist for advancement through instruction in procedures, cross-sectional anatomy, radiation safety, and physics and instrumentation.

Computed Tomography Eligibility Requirements
In addition to Pima Medical Institute’s standard admissions requirements, applicants will need to:
- Hold a current American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) registration as a radiologic technologist
- Document current employment as a radiologic technologist, since this program has no clinical component of its own
- Document either current or past cross-training in CT, or your employer’s intention to cross-train you as a CT technologist

Who is the Computed Tomography certificate program for?
This program is designed for radiologic technologists who already hold current American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) registration and want to add computed tomography to their scope of practice.
Do I need to be currently working to take this program?
Yes. Because this program has no clinical component of its own, you’ll need to document current employment as a radiologic technologist as well as documentation of either current or past cross-training in CT, or your employer’s intention to cross-train you as a CT technologist, as part of admission into the program.
What is computed tomography (CT)?
Computed tomography uses ionizing radiation, a scanner and a computer to create three-dimensional images of sections of the human body. CT technologists position patients for the scan, administer contrast when needed, operate the scanning equipment and prepare the images for the radiologist or provider who interprets them.
Is there a clinical or hands-on component to this program?
No. This program is fully online and focused on didactic instruction. The hands-on CT procedure experience required by ARRT is completed separately, typically through cross-training with your employer.
Are there specific software or computer requirements?
Yes. You’ll need a full PC or Mac with a high-speed internet connection. Tablets and smartphones aren’t sufficient for the coursework this program requires.
How long does the program take to complete?
This certificate program is designed to be completed in approximately 16 weeks.
How do I become eligible for the ARRT Computed Tomography registry exam?
Completing this program meets ARRT’s structured education requirement for the Computed Tomography registry exam, but it doesn’t complete your eligibility on its own. ARRT also requires you to document completion and repetition of a specific set of CT procedures, which most students fulfill through their employer’s CT department. Once you’ve met both the structured education and procedure documentation requirements, you may apply to sit for the exam.
What can I do after completing this program?
Once you’ve met ARRT’s full eligibility requirements, structured education plus procedure documentation, you can apply to sit for the Computed Tomography registry exam and add CT to your scope of practice after successful completion.
Is this program available in my state?
In most states, yes. However, this program does not meet state educational requirements for licensure or certification in Colorado, Massachusetts, Michigan, Nevada, New Mexico, North Carolina, Oregon, Wisconsin, Vermont, American Samoa, Guam, Northern Mariana Islands, Puerto Rico, or the US Virgin Islands, so Pima Medical Institute doesn’t enroll students located in those states or territories. State Licensure Determination Disclosure
The Computed Tomography (CT) program is offered via online distance education method of delivery out of the PMI Tucson campus. Pima Medical Institute is an approved institution through the National Council for State Authorization Reciprocity Agreement (NC SARA) which allows Pima Medical Institute Tucson to offer distance learning programs to residents of states other than Arizona. Participation in NC SARA does not exempt an institution from state professional licensing requirements.
A student’s physical location is determined at the time of enrollment by submission of government-issued identification as well as a student attestation of their physical location in the enrollment agreement. Students agree to update the institution if their physical location changes. Students are able to notify the institution of a change to their physical location in the Pima Medical Institute Student Portal. Prospective students and enrolled students should understand that a change in physical location may adversely impact a student’s ability to complete the program. If a student is planning to relocate he or she is required to discuss this with the Student Services Coordinator and/or Program Director. Pima Medical Institute (PMI) has determined that the Computed Tomography (CT) program does not meet the state educational requirements for licensure or certification in the following states. Therefore, the institution does not enroll students into the CT program who are physically located in the following states and territories: Colorado, Massachusetts, Michigan, Nevada, New Mexico, North Carolina, Oregon, Wisconsin, Vermont, American Samoa, Guam, Northern Mariana Islands, Puerto Rico, and the US Virgin Islands.
